Job Description:

Minor League Baseball (MiLB) is seeking an organized and driven Intern to join the legal team for the 2018 calendar year. The Government Relations Intern will support and engage in direct legislative and policy education and advocacy activities with federal and state Congressional representatives and other federal and state departments, offices, and agencies.

Essential Functions:

  • Support and provide recommendations to Minor League Baseball’s senior executives and leagues and clubs in the expansion and implementation of outreach/education and legislative initiatives
  • Coordinate advocacy meetings and engage government officials regarding Minor League Baseball’s legislative and policy priorities
  • Build and maintain relationships with MiLB member leagues and clubs, partner associations, and other affiliate organizations
  • Monitor federal and state legislation, rules, and regulations on topics affecting Minor League Baseball
  • Provide legislative analysis and policy briefing papers, backgrounders, and other communications on topics affecting Minor League Baseball
  • Prepare materials for the MiLB office and member leagues and clubs for distribution to federal and state Congressional representatives and other federal and state departments, offices, and agencies
  • Assist with the creation of materials supporting and developing the Minor League Baseball PAC
  • Actively participate in soliciting participation in the Minor League Baseball Caucus and the planning and organizing of Minor League Baseball Caucus events
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy General Counsel or Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs/General Couns

Experience and Skills:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 6 months’ experience having worked or interned for a member of Congress or Congressional committee required

Skills & Attributes:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Disciplined, focused, organized, detail-oriented, professional, and honest
  • Ability to multi-task between projects and meet deadlines

Additional Notes:

  • Must be physically present at work location during business hours
  • Professional office environment; this position uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopies, filing cabinets, and fax machines
  • Primarily sedentary role; however, some filing required including the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool or lift up to 40 pounds as necessary
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background screening and social security verification
