Job Description:

The MiLB Associates Program offers an immersive baseball leadership experience to post-graduate students, enhancing their understanding of Minor League Baseball operations through a valuable, hands-on opportunity with the league office and our clubs. This paid internship program begins with orientation in January and concludes with a team project presentation and attendance at the Baseball Winter Meetings in December. The goal of this program is to prepare entry-level professionals for a career in sports, especially Minor League Baseball. During this year-long program, Associates will gain an in-depth understanding of the department in which they are assigned and exposure to all other aspects of Minor League Baseball.

The Associate, Diversity & Inclusion will assist the Director of Diversity & Inclusion with a variety of projects including but not limited to research and data analysis, database creation and management, website development, program development and management, and other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Director, Diversity & Inclusion

Status: Intern (Temporary, Full-time)

Classification: Non-Exempt

Location: St. Petersburg, FL

Work Hours: TBD, up to 40 hours/week

Desired Start Date: January 14, 2019

End Date: December 20, 2019

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Director of Diversity & Inclusion with the creation and execution of programs designed to impact the MiLB Diversity Initiative core focus areas: Ownership, Executives, Employment, Fan Base and Business-to-Business (B2B)
  • Collaborate with appropriate staff to enhance the collection and creation of content to be shared on the Diversity Initiative web pages
  • Research and update current database of local and national university and other women and minority recruitment sources
  • Collaborate with appropriate internal office staff to collect data and draft various website content to be shared on the Diversity Initiative Webpages
  • Update existing database of local and national universities and women and minority owned organizations; research and add new sources to enhance minority outreach
  • Review and analyze industry workforce data upon submission
  • Travel, attend and work as a respectable representative of Minor League Baseball at certain industry events such as the Baseball Winter Meetings and other professional conferences and events
  • Keep current diversity best practices, specifically in sports
  • Assist and support other departments through research, data collection and compilation, proofreading, etc.
  • Actively participate in all MiLB Associates Program activities and projects
  • Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the Manager of Diversity & Inclusion

Experience and Skills:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related area of study
  • Prior professional/internship experience, preferred
  • Subject matter knowledge, preferred

Skills & Attributes:

  • Organizational, interpersonal and effective written and verbal communication skills required
  • Proven ability to multi-task and effectively manage a variety of projects

Additional Notes:

  • Must be present in St. Petersburg, Florida for the duration of the 2019 MiLB Associates Program (January 14, 2019 to December 20, 2019)
  • Must be able to travel to Baseball Winter Meetings and other events as needed
  • Must be physically present at work location during required business hours
  • Professional office environment; this position uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
  • May be required to stand and walk regularly, and occasionally lift or move packages up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background screening and social security verification
